Stone Techno started in 2020, as a collaborative project between The Third Room and world-famous Ruhr Museum. This summer Stone Techno presents their biggest and sonically varied line-up. At its core, the line-up consists of artists who have collaborated with the Stone Techno series from the 2021 & 2022 series as well as additional local and emerging artists. The line up is enriched with a new generation of pioneering, emerging and boundary pushing artists to perform at the Stone Techno Festival. The festival also features a floor solely dedicated to showcasing local talent. Prepare for an immersive two days, four floors and additional shows with more than 40 artists, all within the exceptional industrial setting.

Techno music stands for upheaval and futurism, while coal is the symbol of the industrialised Ruhr Area, this is a unique project with its audibility inclined to the ongoing process of transformation in the cultural and natural history of the region. THE CONCEPT
The Stone Techno project is a new kind of multidisciplinary project, experimenting with sampling, creating and releasing music made out of stones and initiating a new festival at the biggest coal mine in Europe.
Internationally renowned artists such as Oscar Mulero, Efdemin, RØDHÅD, FJAAK, Dax J, Colin Benders, Matrixxman, Nene H, Jamaica Suk, Yan Cook, Hadone and many more have already created techno tracks based exclusively on sampled minerals and rocks. The tracks were released in a series of 12″ vinyl EPs on The Third Room label.
A five-hour Stone Techno concert was recently recorded at the Ruhr Museum for ARTE Concert and has set new standards in the matter of combining music, art and science for a wider audience.

THE NEW SAMPLE LIBRARY
The Stone Techno project now conceptually goes one step further: Before the final backfilling of the mine at Zeche Zollverein, the acoustic atmosphere of this significant piece of global mining history was recorded 1000 meters underground, not only as an irreplaceable acoustic document, but also as preparation for an extraordinary sample library for the next series of releases.
A luminary of the electronic music scene has taken on this mammoth task, the British artist Matthew Herbert, who combines electronic club music, art house and avant-garde pop culture like no other.
This summer Matthew has sampled rocks and coal seams from the Zeche Zollverein to create a new sample library for Stone Techno from the soundscape of the underground world. The finite raw material will provide the basis for new music which will accompany not only the four upcoming releases (4 EPs / 16 artists), but also the Stone Techno Festival in July.
This multi-layered project aims to raise awareness to the invisible breadth of the Ruhr Area, as the organizers express their appreciation for it and endeavor to tell its story with authenticity.
