Eva Fàbregas Devouring Lovers 6 July 2023 – 14 January 2024 . A special exhibition of the Nationalgalerie – Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
Eva Fàbregas has taken command of the iconic hall at the Hamburger Bahnhof with an expansive, site-specific installation, marking her most extensive solo exhibition to date. Redefining the conventional boundaries of sculpture, Fàbregas beckons visitors into a sensory and spatial journey. The museum’s architectural framework, distinguished by industrial iron girders, undergoes a metamorphosis as biomorphous sculptures organically reshape the space.
In this latest creation, Fàbregas (born in 1988 in Barcelona, currently residing and working in London and Barcelona) engages with the passage-like architecture of Hamburger Bahnhof’s primary historical hall. The artist’s hallmark soft and corporeal objects traverse the entire expanse, extending from the sides, hanging from the ceiling, and intertwining with the metal structures.
The subtle vibrations and movements emanating from these sculptures elude clear identification yet manifest a tangible physical presence. The fusion of sculpture and movement fundamentally alters visitors’ perceptions of the hall, blurring the boundaries between the technically generated and the realms of the human and non-human. Immersed in this organic-technical environment, visitors find themselves navigating a space where distinctions become indistinct.
