What’s in store for you this Berlin Fashion Week?

Berlin Fashion Week has officially started today. But what can we expect? Here’s a rundown on the designers you should keep an eye out for.

Avenir

A core principle of Avenir’s brand DNA is creating sustainable fashion that respects the planet, humans, and animals. Since its inception in 2020, this young Berlin-based label has exclusively used re- and upcycled materials. Their upcoming collection, Commute, remains shrouded in mystery, making us all the more eager to see what eco-friendly surprises they have in store for us.

SIA ARNIKA

SIA ARNIKA was founded in Berlin by Danish designer Sia Arnika. The brand is especially inspired by Nordic mysticism and contemporary culture, often creating an unique alternative reality which they reflect in their collections. Rooted in both minimalism and maximalism, SIA ARNIKA’s pieces offer a bold yet anonymous take on self-expression. The brand collaborates with European manufacturers alone and solely uses recycled materials.

DZHUS

“In the mode of self-rediscovery and self-reinvention, I translate ‘patterns into patterns’, deciphering the complex structure of my trauma and redirecting it into avant-garde design solutions” – Irena Dzhus (founder, designer DZHUS) 

Ukrainian concept brand DZHUS is internationally known for its multi-purpose outfits, made of cruelty-free materials. Designer Irina Dzhus’ pattern-making innovations help minimise physical shopping and create a versatile yet sustainable wardrobe from a few transformable garments. From the day of its launch in 2010, DZHUS is a vegetarian-friendly brand and uses only ethical materials. Initially designed as womenswear, many of DZHUS garments have unisex aesthetics and fit.

Rebekka Ruétz

Rebekka Ruétz’ idealistic values, such as sustainable production, high-quality materials, and fair working conditions, are reflected in all her collections.

Designer Rebekka Ruétz crafts sustainable Slow Fashion for the modern Amazon. Her brand champions the urgent need for a more sustainable fashion industry, balancing social responsibility with uncompromising quality and environmental standards. Each piece begins its journey in a historic German production facility, using only the finest materials from European suppliers. Upholding strong cruelty-free values, the label shuns real leather, fur, and silk. Her new collection Black Sun will be featured on July 3, and we are waiting in excitement for sure.

Danny Reinke

Danny Reinke crafts their collections exclusively in Berlin, utilizing predominantly EU-sourced materials. Upholding the highest ecological standards, the brand guarantees fair working conditions in fabric production and minimizes shipping distances to ensure an environmentally conscious manufacturing process. Sourcing all fabrics from licensed European suppliers, Danny Reinke shortens transport routes and ensures fair treatment for everyone involved in their value chain, embodying an inspiring commitment to sustainability. His latest collection I’m Lost In You Alone, will hit the runway on July 3.

Kitschy Couture

“My honeymoon is everything I dreamed of and more. I’m drunk on love and immigrant nostalgia. Kitschy Couture cordially invites you to a paradisiacal getaway”

Abarna Kugathasan, founder of Kitschy Couture, spins enchanting stories through her designs, while at the same time reflecting cultural diversity and honoring tradition in refreshing new ways. Her previous collection, Buttercream Fantasy, depicted a fairytale of a bride marrying herself, set against a ballroom backdrop with lingerie bridal dresses. The story now continues with Artificial Paradise, where the bride will enjoy a tropical honeymoon escape. Expect tropical heat, inflatable palm trees, and foamy lotus flowers, blending thoughts of immigrant nostalgia with playful charm.

Marcel Ostertag

Marcel Ostertag is both creator and brand in one. Drawing inspiration from his headquarters in Berlin, with its vibrant streets and dynamic energy, he balances traditional influences with modern flair. Marcel honed his fashion expertise at the prestigious Central St. Martins College in London and through numerous international collaborations and shows. Since founding his label in 2006, he has committed to his idealistic values of sustainable production, high-quality materials, and fair working conditions. During this edition of Fashion Week, he will showcase his latest collection Eden.

Kilian Kerner Berlin

Kilian Kerner has been a standout designer after founding his label in 2004. Renamed Kilian Kerner Berlin in 2021, his brand has collaborated with major names like Nike, Fielmann, and Villeroy & Boch. As seen on runways in New York, Paris, London, and more, the brand also regular showcases at their homebase, Berlin. Kerner, a favorite on Germany’s Next Topmodel, will return as a judge in 2024. Co-founder of the successful W.E4. FASHION DAY, he continues to influence fashion through various media, dressing stars like Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, and Rita Ora.

Clara Colette Miramon

“Drawing from childhood memories, coming-of-age tales, and subcultures, she creates highly sensual looks that blend traditional techniques and historical cuts with contemporary pop culture”

Clara Colette Miramon explores and questions traditional female roles while celebrating female sexuality. Specializing in corsets made from unconventional materials like denim, her figure-hugging designs range from slim leggings to abstract dresses with “strategic” cut-outs. Sustainability is paramount: all her designs are made-to-order, with 80 percent of the materials being recycled. Miramon has already gained an international fanbase, with stars like Doja Cat and Kali Uchis wearing her designs.

Namilia

“Fashion is political”

Founded in 2015 by Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl, Namilia has been redefining both femininity and masculinity. Through blending strong and sensual elements, they present a modern understanding of gender expression. Known for its unapologetic political statements and sex-positivity, the brand champions motocross and rave revival styles. Namilia’s provocative gender-neutral clubwear has garnered a celebrity following, including Rihanna, Cardi B, Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, and Arca.

Maria Chany

“Efforts of humans to find planets similar to Earth, that could be
modified to serve us as a habitable place, lies in bed of complete paradox. What is holding us back from making efforts to make our Earth a habitable place? And what are we wearing here?”

Inspired by the universe’s deepest secrets, Marija Canji’s designs reflect the cosmic particles within us. Terraforming, a term popularized in scientific fields, now shapes her latest fashion collection bearing the same name. Her collection envisions astronauts as modern knights, questioning our quest to terraform distant planets instead of preserving Earth. With unique, hand-crafted pieces, Marija disrupts Balkan market norms, showcasing diverse and beautiful characters.
