This editorial is our voice of opposition to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank. In the face of the continuous killing of innocent people, we channeled our collective helplessness into a shared project, giving it purpose and meaning.
It’s important to mention that Victoria, our model, is half-Palestinian through her father, which imbues these images with profound significance. The inspiration for the photoshoot stems from the colors of the Palestinian flag, symbolizing resilience and unity. We were conscious not to directly appropriate Palestinian culture, which is why keffiyehs are incorporated in a subtle, respectful manner.
The watermelon, prominently featured, serves as a symbol of a destroyed but proud nation. Historically, Palestinians have used the watermelon as a substitute for their flag when their statehood could not be demonstrated through official symbols. With this session, we aim to empower Palestinians worldwide, reinforcing their fight for life, dignity, and sovereignty.
This version maintains the original sentiment while enhancing the flow and readability. The use of symbolism, such as the watermelon and the keffiyeh, comes across clearly as respectful and intentional.
