Known for his pivotal role in the Acid Techno sub-genre revival through his label, Involve Records, Regal’s latest work revisits the genre’s essence while infusing it with a fresh, modern twist. Under his ACIDBOY alias, his latest album, ‘The Final Chapter’, is a nostalgic and forward-looking expression of an artist who has grown and adapted but remains true to his core musical identity.
This eleven-track project blends the high-energy sounds that first defined his career with the depth and maturity gained over years of evolution whilst also honouring an unforgettable era of one of electronic music’s boldest and most expressive sub-genres and artists.
The album emerges as a response to the increasingly trend-driven sound of the post-pandemic electronic music scene, which Regal found challenging to align with. Instead of following these fleeting trends, he crafted a collection that honours the tradition of Acid Techno while pushing its boundaries. ‘The Final Chapter’ defies superficial musical trends, offering a profound sonic experience that invites listeners on a deeper journey, far removed from the quick-hit tracks designed for social media. The name of this album and his previous EP ‘The Last Summer’ certainly leaves room for interpretation as these might sound like signs of a farewell to the music scene.
The LP offers fluid diversity throughout, with each track merging into the Acid Techno theme yet retaining its unique personality. From the harder-hitting sonics of first single ‘The Final Chapter’ out on the 24th October and ‘Make Regal Great Again’ to the hypnotic allure of ‘Energy Circuit’ and the standout collaboration and second single to be released on the 7th November ‘Ruido’ with Madrid-based duo AEREA, ‘The Final Chapter’ showcases ACIDBOY’s boundless artistic depth.
This personal journey intensified during the pandemic, leading to a period of introspection and intense productivity. The post-pandemic world saw Regal grappling with an artistic crisis as the evolving scene nearly drove him to quit music. So, the album represents a return to his musical roots, bringing closure on a significant portion of his life whilst reflecting on his path toward recovery, self-discovery and exemplary evolution. Outside the studio, he balances his introverted nature with cooking for friends and boxing, underscoring his commitment to authenticity and personal growth.
‘The Final Chapter’ is an album that goes against the current flow, bringing to light the sound of the sub-genres of Techno from the last 35 years. It’s a clever balance between past and present, the old and new Regal, emphasising his introverted artistic side, a lover of music and production as well as a story intended for a patient and cultured listener.
‘The Final Chapter’ is a body of work that is as introspective as it is innovative. There will be 2 singles from October leading to the album’s release on the 22nd November.
