The State of Undress: Exploring Perception through Fashion – editorial

Fashion is more than clothing; it’s a statement, an art form, and a lens through which we view the world. The State of Undress explores the asymmetry of human perception. Created by Kinga Klimczak and a talented team, this project challenges the way we perceive bodies and faces through visual contrasts.

The concept centers around paired photographs. In the first image, the model is dressed, face uncovered. In the second, the model appears partially undressed, but their face is obscured. This juxtaposition provokes a critical question: does the focus shift to the body or remain with the unseen face? By highlighting these contrasts, the project questions societal norms around beauty and attention.

Key contributors include movement director Dominik Więcek, stylist Malwina Różańska, and models Marta Jabłońska and Weronika Bogdan. The wardrobe blends pieces from emerging designers like Oliwia Matlak and iconic brands such as Zara and Calzedonia, embodying a mix of artistry and accessibility. These clothing choices complement the deeper message of the project—style is a means of expression that shapes how others perceive us.

This project invites viewers to reflect. When we view someone, what catches our eye first? Is it their face, their attire, or something else entirely? The State of Undress offers no definitive answer but leaves space for personal interpretation. Ultimately, this thought-provoking work challenges stereotypes and inspires fresh conversations about perception, identity, and self-expression. Whether you’re drawn to its artistic visuals or the deeper themes it unpacks, The State of Undress is a compelling exploration of the human experience.
