We’re excited to premiere “Burn Rate,” a powerful track from Homogeny, the latest album by apaull. This haunting, raw piece takes techno to new depths, blending rich basslines, swirling feedback, and industrial undertones with shades of indie dance and synth wave.
The tracks were created using techno as its foundation, more raw, deep and hypnotic, than driving. They are interspersed with rich bass-lines and swirling feed- back along with industrial undertones and shades of indie dance and synth wave. It is always about the music first. That said, each track has a message, open to interpretation, for those that want to listen more deeply. – apaull.
apaull’s second album Homogeny, set to release on February 28th, features the track “Burn Rate.” The track will also drop as a single in a different version, featuring a remix by Rhys Fulber (Frontline Assembly), on March 28th.

apaull is a Dutch-Canadian techno and house music producer and DJ who began producing music in his mid-fifties after a successful career as an environmental scientist, business owner, and academic.
He blends influences from 80s and 90s electronic acts like The Orb and Skinny Puppy into high-quality, DJ-friendly tracks. Since launching Furnace Room Records in 2022, he has released over 20 tracks, including his debut album Fought and Won (2023). Supported by A-list DJs such as Dave Clarke and Chris Liebing, apaull collaborates with a team of industry veterans, including legendary producer Abe Duque and Berlin’s Pull Proxy for promotion.

Artwork and photography are an important part of framing apaull’s music with a visual aesthetic. The cover Homogeny lettering is by famed Brooklyn based artist Al Diaz, a past Jean-Michel Basquiat collaborator. The cover art is by London, Canada artist Jay Hodgson. Dave Clarke, the “baron of techno” and renowned photographer, takes all of apaull’s photographs.
Taking photo’s of Landscapes is where I feel most comfortable as I can project my mood in the image I capture, but doing Portraiture requires trust and faith and understanding, the trust has to come from the subject because whilst I endeavour to get their character across , it is how I see them and sometimes it is not how they see themselves, and that can be confronting. So with Portraiture I get an extra reward, that of symbiosis and human connection and I “get” my subject across in a strong and undiluted manner, their essence but not in a “showroom for sale” mode, strength through honest portrayal, and Monochrome marks that in bold.
I have worked with Paul on a few occasions, he immediately signed into that “trust” pact from before our first shoot , he gets what I convey, understood my creative vision and my non negotiable aesthetic towards an artistic output and trusted me implicitly. For this shoot we worked on location, Paul is well aware that I try to use any architecture that I actively seek to reinforce the whole image (indeed the shot I used at my recent Leica Solo Exhibition in Amsterdam is exemplary of this approach) and he moves freely within that environment.
But this time, for a change, I also used a famous historical studio in Belgium and was purposely stiff in my initial approach for the beginning of the shoot, as a subject myself in the past being in a studio is bizarre and often an alienating experience where you almost feel how your skin sits on your flesh and bones in micro detail, so I played with this, then when he least expected just changed the mood and then we got exactly what was needed. Artistic trust is always the way forwards. Thank you Paul and also KEYI for supporting my artistic output. –Dave Clarke (Amsterdam Jan 2025)
