Beluga Tracks Presents First Vinyl Release with “Sequoia” Remixes

Madrid label Beluga Tracks presents its first vinyl release with remixes of Sequoia” by Spanish artist Reptile.

Last November, Beluga Tracks proudly celebrated Madrid techno through 4 dynamic remixes of Reptile’s club anthem Sequoia.

“Beluga Tracks is all about bringing Madrid’s underground energy to the world – showcasing bold, cutting-edge sounds and connecting people to the heart of the city’s evolving techno scene.”

The already sold-out EP showcases remixes from Blasha & Allat, JKS, Not A Headliner, and Mental Duality. Each rendition offers a unique, complimentary take on Sequoia, while still preserving the forceful energy of the acclaimed original.

Art for the Beluga Tracks label is created by Casilda Pérez del Molino. The artist’s distinct, cartoonish style is the foundation of the visual identity of each release. It features caricatures of the DJs, set in iconic locations across Madrid such as Matadero, El Retiro, or Plaza Mayor. Madrid is an integral element of the artwork and thus the label, visually depicting relevant cultural context.

Reptile’s Sequoia made its digital debut in 2023, and has since left club-goers entranced on the dancefloor with its steady crescendo and seamless chorus of synthesizers and percussion. Each of the 4 remixes allow listeners to experience a different layer of the multidimensional track.

The Remixes

Manchester-based duo Blasha & Allatt peel back a few layers of the original track, creating a more minimalistic edit of Sequoia. The co-founders of influential Meat Free parties and residents of Amsterdam Vault Sessions are key players in the techno scene. Their version is stripped back and atmospheric. If the original is what you’d hear in the middle of a sweaty dancefloor, Blasha & Allatt’s version is what you hear while taking a much-needed smoke break outside to recharge.

JKS, of Paris-based label Molekül, goes the opposite direction, intensifying the already vigorous original. JKS’s style builds on a unique fusion of influences and impressive momentum. His remix revolves around a steady, latin-influenced rhythm and energetic backing sounds inspired by nature.

Spanish DJ Not A Headliner, or José Garrido, brings a club-focused reinterpretation of the original track. Living up to his reputation as a key figure in the national techno scene, Garrido’s remix is heavier than the original and takes direct aim at the dance floor. Garrido pulls different sonic layers and textures to the front, offering the listener an entirely new relationship to the track.

In the final remix on the vinyl, Madrid-based duo and residents of Crow Techno Club, Mental Duality, submit the hardest-hitting rendition of Sequoia. Departing from their usual style, the duo delivers a heavy, fast, and explosive remix. Built around a broken kick, the high energy track has elements of cyberpunk and is hard to resist.
