Known for its raw atmosphere, the venue merges music, fashion, and performance to redefine the electronic music scene in Shanghai.
Founded in 2021 by Ukrainian-born DJ Marko (a.k.a. Prymara) and local DJ-entrepreneur Edgar, ABYSS is an underground nightclub renowned for its dark, immersive environment. Located at 151 Julu Road in the Huangpu District, it is a reimagining of the former “151” venue. A descent through a narrow passage leads to the club’s basement, where pulsating techno, trance, and experimental beats keep the night alive. Innovative lighting and a cutting-edge sound system transport clubgoers into a hypnotic sonic dimension.
ABYSS is also famous for its themed nights, including the BDSM-inspired “C.U.M” party, the high-fashion “Fetish Ball” featuring XIMONLEE & UNTITLAB, and the infamous “Blood Bath.” In autumn 2024, it became a fortress for Rick Owens’ Dark Knight of Fashion, hosting an exclusive private event with a live performance by Michelle Lamy. With an ever-growing reputation, ABYSS continues to attract international artists, music lovers, and the underground elite.
ABYSS Merch & Design: Where Minimalism Meets Metal
The club’s aesthetic extends beyond the dance floor. ABYSS is known for its signature merchandise line, including clothing and collectible drink tickets. The designs feature industrial elements, with metal clasps that double as tokens for bar drinks. The club has also collaborated with Artshame, merging dark techno fashion with playful, mischievous streetwear.

Berlin Bunny
DJ, producer, and co-founder of KEYI Magazine and Dark Disco.org, Berlin Bunny is a powerhouse behind the decks. Known for her genre-blurring sets of techno, electro, EBM, and breaks, she has captivated dance floors from Tresor and KitKat Club to ADE and beyond.
Eyes Dice
DJ, photographer, and co-founder of KEYI Magazine and Dark Disco.org. Eyes Dice fuses fast-paced techno, electro, and EBM with cinematic energy. With performances spanning Asia, South America, and Berlin’s top clubs, his sets are a relentless force of rhythm and rebellion.
Wataru
Hailing from Tokyo, Wataru has been a key player in Japan’s nightclub circuit since the 2000s. From Womb to ageHa, his emotionally driven sets weave Tokyo’s sonic nostalgia with cutting-edge club sounds. Now based in Shanghai, Wataru brings his unique perspective to ABYSS.
Illsee
A staple of Shanghai’s underground, Illsee (scientific name 老慢) curates an eclectic soundscape blending 80s industrial, EBM, minimal wave, and darkwave. Co-founder of legendary parties like Stockholm Syndrome and Aqualung, she has shared the stage with some of the most influential names in the scene.
