Welcome, Matasism! Glad to have a connection between Miami and Berlin. Can you please introduce yourself to our audience? And tell us more about your project.
Hello, and thank you for having me.
My name is Ernesto, also known as Matasism. I am from Italy but am currently based in Miami, USA.
In 2017, I launched my project Matasism, and the label shares the same name as my artist alias. I pondered whether to open a label and release all my music or send demos to other labels. The answer was clear to me, so I decided to open my own label and began releasing all my music primarily on vinyl. After 2-3 years, I opted to also release music digitally.
The label exclusively features my music and that of some other close artist friends. In the initial catalogs, you’ll only find my music. However, after many years, I decided to broaden my horizons and began signing new talent for my label, as you can see in my latest catalog.
We’re thrilled to delve into the discussion about your EP on the BPitch imprint. Could you tell us how your journey started with the label and what led to your collaboration with the legendary Ellen Allien?
After establishing my record label and initiating the release of my music on vinyl, I attracted the attention of numerous international artists. My music received playtime and support from prominent figures in the scene, including Ellen Allien, who took notice of my work. Upon discovering several videos online featuring her playing my music, I reached out and asked if she would be interested in listening to some demos I had for Bpitch Control. To my delight, she agreed, and that’s where it all began. I subsequently signed with Bpitch Control and released two EPs: the first one titled “Can You Feel My Soul” and the second one titled “The Music is Control of Your Acid Mind.” Additionally, I signed onto one compilation. As for the future… who knows? lol
Currently, you reside in Miami, how would you describe the music scene there? In comparison to your hometown of Rome or a city like Berlin, what are the differences and similarities you’ve observed?
Miami is crazy, lol!
I love living here, but compared to Europe, Miami’s techno scene doesn’t have as many followers and tends to be more commercial. However, lately, there have been efforts to grow this scene here too, which is something that I would also like to contribute to in the future.
Could you please share with us your daily workflow? How do you typically find inspiration and connect with music?
I do not have any specific workflow; I listen to a lot of music, from techno old school to trance to hip hop—I listen to everything. When I feel like producing something, it’s because I know that I am inspired at that moment and I have to record immediately. I think producing music is all about the idea that you create.

What does the future look like for Matasism ?
As I mentioned before, I would like to grow the techno scene here in Miami with some ideas that I have in mind. Also, in 2024, I will be fully dedicated to music. I am challenging myself to release as much of my music as I can on my label! It’s tough, but let’s see if I can do it, lol.
