Into the Open returns for its 2025 edition, running from January 28 to February 2 at Kühlhaus Berlin. This festival redefines classical music by merging it with other art forms. Expect electronic music, visual arts, multimedia, dance, and experimental film. The theme for 2025 is Rituals. These are powerful cultural practices connecting individuals to history and spirituality. The festival will explore how rituals bridge past and present, creating a unique space for new artistic synergies.
The 2025 programme features three world premieres. First, Big Gay Cartoon Machine by Alex Paxton, known for blending classical music with jazz and noise. Next, Raimonda Žiūkaitė presents Rituals of Desire, performed by the all-female band Narkose. Lastly, Kollective MAL(A)K(h)UT(h), a creation by Paris-based artist Hugo van Rechem, promises an innovative experience.
Other highlights include a performance by pianist and DJ Francesco Tristano in Bach & Beyond, blending classical and electronic elements. The Frankfurt Ensemble Modern Academy, known for pushing musical boundaries, will also perform. The festival features the Sokhumi Drama Theatre from Georgia, telling stories of resilience after decades of exile. Accordionist Martynas Levickis, celebrated globally, will take the stage as well.
