Crimson Allure beauty editorial shot by Rina Nakano and Daniela Le.
In a time filled with absurdity and contradictions, we are drawn to the tension between allure and fear. This shoot, centred on crimson red, explores the edges of identity—facing the challenges of being immigrants, revealing rather than concealing and remaining soft in the face of the unknown.
Exposing ourselves instead of hiding, and staying soft in the harshness of the unknown. As a Japanese migrant photographer in Berlin, I wanted to capture the uneasy harmony of this moment, where the boldness of makeup and the intensity of the audacious gaze confront the complexities of who we represent and where we come from.
The concept was conceived by Vietnamese-German makeup and hair artist Daniela, whose vision and detailed planning formed the foundation of the narrative. Through bold, evocative makeup and hairstyling for both models, Daniela brought this vision to life, crafting looks that perfectly embodied the themes of resilience and vulnerability.
As a Japanese migrant photographer living in Berlin, I resonated deeply with Daniela’s concept. My photographic approach sought to amplify these stories with subtle distortion and colours, capturing the presence and individuality of our diverse models. Together, we channelled a fractured yet resilient global narrative, embracing the surreal interplay of beauty and horror in a world that constantly challenges our identities.
