Andrej Gronau FW25/26 Collection at BFW25: An Ode to Nostalgia

The Andrej Gronau FW25/26 collection explores the sentimental value of “KnickKnacks” or “SchnickSchnack”– the everyday objects we collect over time.

These items—whether small figurines, vintage decorations, or nostalgic childhood toys—may not hold material worth, but they carry deep emotional significance and memories.

Gronau’s designs take inspiration from these seemingly insignificant objects, elevating them into pieces of art that evoke childhood wonder and the beauty of imperfection.

For instance, the collection features wrinkled metallic fabrics transformed into ornamented jackets, echoing the reflective quality of long-forgotten treasures.

Delicate knits mimic the fragile texture of paper ribbons, while oversized collars, reminiscent of antique figurines, blend Victorian drama with a modern aesthetic.

In addition, furry textures evoke the comforting, nostalgic feel of childhood stuffed toys, and star-shaped cut-outs nod to the playful, tactile nature of craft projects from youth.

Despite its nostalgic influences, Gronau’s collection doesn’t dwell in the past.

The voluminous shapes, such as puffy sleeves and flared dresses, introduce a sense of fantasy, which is balanced by clean, utilitarian tailoring.

This juxtaposition of the faded and the shiny, the childlike and the refined, invites reflection on the value of memories and how the objects we collect become vessels of self-expression.

Since launching his label in 2022, Central Saint Martins graduate Andrej Gronau has embraced themes of playfulness, identity, and gender fluidity.

For this collection, Gronau reinterprets these overlooked treasures, fusing playful elements with structured design to craft a fashion statement that pays tribute to the sentimental value of objects and the memories they hold.
