The third track ‘Therapy Taxi’ is playful and lighthearted, inspired by the idea that people tend to say too much in a taxi, and the track reflects that with its upbeat and talkative beat, making you feel like you are in a taxi ride.

The album concludes with ‘Svelgur’ a track that brings an immersive feeling of a moulin that forms on glaciers (deep holes made by water) or it can also be a whirpool. The track’s deep and intense soundscapes create a sense of depth and mystery, evoking the feeling of being submerged in water.

Hello Stefan, hope you started your year as you wished for. We are amazed by your release which is going out very soon! Could you tell us about your day and introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello and thank you! I am an Icelandic producer and DJ based in Reykjavík, Iceland. Currently, my day-to-day is working, spending time with my family and making music. Lately, I’ve been working toward finishing a number of new tracks and preparing for an upcoming STRECK party in Gothenburg on the 25th of March. I’m also a big fan of being outdoors and like to spend my time going on mountain and glacier adventures here in Iceland.

STRECK is an independent record label, club, and agency from Gothenburg, Sweden. We are curious how did you got involved with the label for the first time?
Up until 2020, I was living in Berlin. I met Simon there through a classmate of mine. I’d say it was a meeting of kindred spirits, we got along really well, we showed each other our music and eventually, we were renting a studio together. Simon told me about STRECK, his aspirations regarding that and was really enthusiastic about getting me on board. I’ve never met anyone as excited about my music before or since so it wasn’t a hard sell. Been on board ever since 🙂

2020년까지 저는 베를린에 살고 있었어요. 그곳에서 동창을 통해 사이먼을 만났죠. 우리는 정말 잘 어울렸고 서로의 음악을 보여줬고 결국에는 함께 스튜디오를 빌리게 되었죠. 사이먼은 저에게 스트럭에 대한 소개와 포부를 말해주었고, 저를 합류시키고 싶다는 열정을 보였어요. 그 전에도 그 후에도 제 음악에 그렇게 열광하는 사람을 만난 적이 없었기 때문에 거절하기 힘들지 않았어요. 그 이후로 계속 함께하고 있습니다.)
We are having here also one of the founders of the label Simon, how did you come up with the idea of the label? What are the plans for the upcoming year ?
The idea came very naturally. It was as well almost a must. To have so many talented friends close by to me and living day-by-day life we just needed to put the pieces together.
Everything from clothes designers, programmers, art directors, film directors, actors and of course all of us are producing music or Dj.
It has always been my vision since I was a teenager to have an independent label / creative “house”. In 2017 Alexander and I started curating club nights in Gothenburg that we developed into bigger warehouse events. That’s the time Patrik joined us and the STRECK family was born. This year we have six vinyl releases planned featuring only in-house artists and DJs, followed by release parties in our hometown Gothenburg. We have also planned to release/ go public with our agency this year.

‘Rennsli’ is one of the tracks from your latest release, which we are about to premiere. What’s the story behind the track and could you tell us more about the production aspects of it?
I started working on Rennsli when I was quarantined for two weeks after arriving in Iceland in early 2020. After arriving me and my girlfriend had mandatory quarantine which we spent in a cabin in the Icelandic countryside. I had plenty of time to make music and try out new techniques. I wanted to make sort of a rolling, gloomy, opener/behemoth.
Rennsli means flow in Icelandic and my thought kept creeping to glacial rivers, which are immensely powerful, and destructive and if you fall into those you are pretty much doomed.
I designed the kick and bass out of the same sample and the groove is just from sequencing it. I also spent a bit of time sound designing the hats and percussion, layering synthetic perks with some organic ones. I also added some 80’s tom rolls into it cause I am a big sucker for 80’s synth tunes.

2020년 초 아이슬란드에 도착한 후 2주 동안 격리되었을 때 렌슬리 작업을 시작했습니다. 도착 후 저와 여자친구는 의무적으로 격리되어 아이슬란드 시골의 오두막에서 지냈어요. 음악을 만들고 새로운 기술을 시도할 시간이 많았어요. 저는 구불구불하고 우울한 오프닝 곡을 만들고 싶었어요. 아이슬란드어로 렌슬리는 흐름을 의미하는데, 빙하 강은 엄청나게 강력하고 파괴적이며 그 강에 빠지면 거의 파멸에 이른다는 생각이 계속 떠올랐어요. 킥과 베이스는 같은 샘플로 디자인했고, 그루브는 시퀀싱을 통해 만들었습니다. 또한 모자와 퍼커션을 사운드 디자인하는 데 약간의 시간을 할애하여 합성 퍼커션과 오가닉 퍼커션을 레이어링했습니다. 80년대 신스 곡을 좋아하기 때문에 80년대 톰 롤도 추가했습니다.
Simon as being the owner of the label. We are curious about your strategy for the upcoming artists also, how do you usually get new artists on board?
I’m not actively looking to get new artists on board as we are focusing on our in-house artists and resident DJs. But they are all well picked out and friends from the beginning. Most of our artists are from Gothenburg, sending music production to each other, playing at the same events and sharing the same vision. The question to ask them to join has been very natural. This year, except for Stefan KELDA Ep, we have debut Ep Releases by Stina Francina, DJ CCCCCC (STRECK art director CARL IVAR), Martina Menfors and Alexander Lind in the production pipeline. As well as releases of our latest and young artists added to the roster, DJ BIKED and EL PISTOL.

In addition to the record label and agency, STRECK also operates underground clubs in Gothenburg, we are curious about the scene in Sweden. Could you get us some inside? You booked artists like Freddy K or SPFDJ. How does it work for you to run both things?
Gothenburg and Malmö have always been strong players when it comes to the underground scene in Sweden. Lately Gothenburg specifically the scene has been peaking but also starts to be threatened by the more commercial crews that are bringing the wrong crowd that is not there for the music and organizer that only cares about the money. But we have many solid Techno and house/minimal crew in Gothenburg as Obalans, TJ6XX, Huldra Collective, Tekla, Tzar (Über) and Locus sound system to name a few that bring quality products and interesting artists to their events. And there have always been strong and passionate clubs such as Rottweiler bar and Mythos in the game.
STRECK fam and crew are a hard-working team that always wants to make something extra.
Without our partners “Hyrljudet” for the sound system and lights, it would never be possible to do what we are doing. And of course, as mentioned before all of our artists have their own specialties and tasks they bring to the table. I think that during the years we build up trust in the booking agencies and that’s why it makes it easy to work and cooperate with their bigger artists. Also, the Gothenburg crowd is hungry for parties, humble and very supportive. And that keeps us motivated.
